Dear Middle School Orchestra Directors,
On behalf of The Wisconsin Philharmonic, I would like to introduce a new educational project: “The
Middle School Orchestra Workshops” now being introduced and organized for the 2011‐2012 school
year.
The Wisconsin Philharmonic Education programs are an example of The Philharmonic and Friends of
Note’s steadfast commitment to providing programs that serve the entire community and provide
opportunities to help students achieve success and enrichment through classical music.
Middle School Orchestra Workshops
The Wisconsin Philharmonic String Quintet
Benefits
The Wisconsin Philharmonic String Quintet will offer the following to middle school orchestras
(grade 7& 8) in Waukesha County:
- Performance by The Wisconsin Philharmonic String Quintet
- Workshop on targeted pedagogical skills (example: shifting and vibrato) for your students in
sectional settings by members of The Wisconsin Philharmonic String Quintet - Critique of your middle school orchestra performance by members of The Wisconsin
Philharmonic String Quintet
Lesson Plan
- The Wisconsin Philharmonic String Quintet will perform one selection for your middle
school orchestra - The Wisconsin Philharmonic String Quintet will teach pedagogical skills in sectional setting
to the five sections of your orchestra (first violins, second violins, violas, cellos, string bass) - The Wisconsin Philharmonic String Quintet will sit in the concluding performance of your
orchestra (one selection) and offer suggestions for improvement after the performance
Responsibilities of Orchestra
- Provide space for 5 sectional workshops (If five spaces are not available sections may be
combined to be team taught) - Perform one selection to be critiqued by The Wisconsin Philharmonic String Quintet
- Publicize workshop to the school district and community
Cost
- The Wisconsin Philharmonic will pay two thirds of the cost and the school orchestra will pay one‐third the cost for the string quintet for each orchestra period. The cost to the school for the string quintet per orchestra period is $100.00. Payment to The Wisconsin Philharmonic must be received prior to the workshop.
The Middle School String Quintet Orchestra Workshops will be coordinated and managed by Mr.
Steven Rindt with all communication inquires at srindt@milwpc.com. Please feel free to make
inquires and potential bookings with Mr. Rindt now for the 2011‐12 school year and/or watch for
future information with updates in September.
