Masterworks Chamber Music Coaching
“I feel especially blessed to have been included in the WSO (now The Wisconsin Philharmonic) Chamber Ensemble Program for the past two years. I have learned a great deal from both the coaches we had, and I really enjoyed working on a professional level with them. I was inspired by their musicianship and knowledge, and working with them has made me a better performer and musician in general.” -Student at Kettle Moraine High School
This project promotes the study of chamber music by assigning a musician of The Wisconsin Philharmonic to a high school as an ensemble coach. The Wisconsin Philharmonic coach, high school string teacher and student musicians decide what repertoire to study during the year. The coach spends five sessions with the group, which is expected to perform the work selected for the entire high school orchestra and in a concert setting. All students in the high school orchestra are given a writing assignment that can vary from self-reflection to a music critique. The ensemble season culminates with a Masterworks Ensemble Festival where all ensembles perform for each other and the public.
