Major Classics for Minors
"I liked the cello because I could feel it in my belly." -Student, Woodside Elementary School, Sussex
"I liked how some of the instruments went really high. They were so cool!" -Student, Orchard Lane Elementary School, New Berlin
Chamber ensembles from The Wisconsin Philharmonic present programs in elementary schools throughout Waukesha County. Each presentation is about 45 minutes long and includes a demonstration of the instruments and their unique sounds, themes in music, styles of composition, conducting, and a question-and-answer period. For many students, this is the first experience with classical music and up-close exposure to musical instruments and performers. These programs are offered free to the schools.
"In a time when students are overloaded with expectations and requirements, it is essential that they are allowed time to slow down and experience the beauty that music can bring to their lives..." -Theresa Witt, Music Teacher, Shady Lane Elementary School, Menomonee Falls
"...we felt the students were actively participating because of how interactive you were in your communication with them." -Terri Maynard, St. Mary's Elementary School, Waukesha
